Something that you make a slight reference to is the flexibility that is needed to fill this role. You need to be good with numbers and story selling when you are in charge of marketing, but especially at a startup where you might be among the first few employees.

Startups operate ahead of the curve and typically are searching for funding, modern marketing techniques are a must.
