thank God!\u00a0 In this time of uncertainty, it is critical that founders adapt quickly to the changing macroeconomic environment.\u00a0 Offices are closed and teams are challenged to maintain productivity and morale while working remotely from home, fundraising and sales pipelines are freezing up and founders must overcome new objections while finding ways to move their fundraising process forward, and together with their CFO&#8217;s, founders must develop various scenarios that <a href=\"https:\/\/medium.com\/sequoia-capital\/the-matrix-for-covid-19-c25bd5195f46\">suggest cutting expenses<\/a>.\u00a0 Thankfully, just today a $2 Trillion USD COVID <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2020\/03\/27\/cares-act-stimulus-package-covid-19\/\">Economic Rescue Bill<\/a> was passed and could provide relief to startup founders (we&#8217;ll explore next week) &#8212; but for the time being, the focus of everyone in FN is how can we help each other successfully navigate this crisis and downturn.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><blockquote  class=\"x-blockquote x-pullquote right\" >The focus of everyone in FN is how can we help each other successfully navigate this crisis and downturn.<\/blockquote>\n<p>FN&#8217;s response is to tap into the collective wisdom of tech founders who&#8217;ve survived the Great Recession, the DotCom Bust and recession of the early 90&#8217;s to transform our founders into <a href=\"https:\/\/a16z.com\/2011\/04\/14\/peacetime-ceowartime-ceo-2\/\">Ben Horrowitz&#8217;s &#8216;Wartime CEO&#8217;s<\/a>&#8216;.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Just this week, we&#8217;ve organized 6 webinars on the topic. Here are some of the key takeaways:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Cultivate investor relationships<\/strong>: Investors may not be cutting checks, but as fnMember Nathan Beckord of <a href=\"https:\/\/foundersuite.com\/\">Foundersuite.com <\/a>advised (and showed how) during his <a href=\"https:\/\/foundersnetwork.com\/blog\/funding-hacks-building-a-funnel\/\">Funding Hacks Virtual Mentoring Session,<\/a>\u00a0now is a good time to build your funnel of investors and start cultivating relationships.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Perfect your pitch<\/strong>: Our partner Tony Pollace of Early Growth Financial advised (and showed how) in his &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/How to Create a Winning Pitch Deck ft Tony Pollace of Early Growth (Mar 26, 2020)\">How to Create a Winning Pitch Deck<\/a>&#8221; presentation, now is a great time to work on your pitch.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Maintain a steady hand:<\/strong> As a leader, we set the tone of our organizations.\u00a0 As FN&#8217;er Vivian Chan of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eyexpo.com\/\">EyeExpo<\/a> shared in our <a href=\"https:\/\/members.foundersnetwork.com\/function\/2209\/\">Peer-to-Peer Discussion: Developing a Contingency Plan for COVID-19<\/a>, it&#8217;s critical to have a steady hand, not overreact or under react, but rather maintain calm.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Agree to triggers on your contingency plans<\/strong>: This small yet vital detail shared by FN&#8217;er Dr. Alexandra Greenhill of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mybesthelper.com\/\">mybesthelper.com<\/a> filed in the &#8220;I wish I knew then what I know now&#8221; folder from &#8217;08: Work with your CFO or Accountant to develop forecast scenarios, <em>agree upon triggers<\/em> and when you act, cut deeper than you&#8217;re comfortable with.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li><strong>This is a good time to cut\u00a0<\/strong><b>non-performers<\/b>: As the saying goes, never let a good crisis go to waste.\u00a0 This might also be a good time to look at non or under performers to cut.\u00a0 When you let someone go, be direct and offer your support for their careers.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li><strong>Lay off employees the right way:<\/strong> One member in the hard hit travel sector joined a call moments before laying off 9 employees.\u00a0 In addition to moral support, the advice provided emphasized the importance of being direct, honest and offering to support their careers with references and advice.\u00a0 Remember: your laid off team members will talk to your surviving team.\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><blockquote  class=\"x-blockquote x-pullquote right\" >FN&#8217;s response is to tap into the collective wisdom of tech founders who&#8217;ve survived the Great Recession, the DotCom Bust and recession of the early 90&#8217;s.<\/blockquote>\n<p>While just a small sampling of the hard earned experience shared on FN in the past week (<a href=\"https:\/\/members.foundersnetwork.com\/function\/all\/?sort=past\">full session recordings),<\/a> it provides a glimpse into the quality of experience our founders have managing startups through economic downturns &#8212; you can alleviate your anxiety and successfully navigate the crisis by commiserating with peers.<\/li>\n<li>When funding and revenue is drying up, there&#8217;s less margin for error. Startups have to execute right the first time, and <a href=\"https:\/\/foundersnetwork.com\/\">FN<\/a> helps you de-risk your decisions by tapping into the collective expertise of experienced peers.<\/li>\n<li>FN has always had a thriving virtual community with the forum, webinars, virtual meetings and calls with the staff. *In fact, we have 90% Monthly Active Users.\u00a0 So really, <a href=\"https:\/\/foundersnetwork.com\/\">FN<\/a> is a great alternative to all the cancelled conferences and networking events.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Spirits boosted, we thought a lot about how we can adapt to better support our founders as they navigate the COVID Crisis.
